Notes:
-Noscript: The only scripts I'm running are from hylianux.com, statcounter.com, and htmlcommentbox.com. You can safely unblock these, and I encourage you to do so. If you see any other scripts running (HIGHLY unlikely), I didn't allow them, and you had better block 'em.
-Resolution: Also, this page is best displayed in at least 1280X1024 screen resolution. If you're still using 1024X768 and complaining my page doesn't look right on your screen, let me just say I don't support packard bell computers running windows 95! Get with the times!
While this page may look like Maddox's best page in the universe, I am not claiming to be better than Maddox. I was insipired by his writing enough to write my own satirical pieces of the same style. I have fun doing it, and I have no intention of stealing Maddox's thunder. - Hylianux UPDATE - apparently, this disclaimer wasn't good enough, so I had to elaborate more on it here.hylianux@gmail.com
Hey! Do you want to be a badass on the pc? Here are some helpful links to get you the software you need to not look like a tool. All software here is free. You see? You CAN solve your problems without throwing money at 'em! Software: Firefox - a web browser that owns. It's the best and safest browser available. - And don't forget to install noscript after you get firefox installed. This is a MUST for ultimate security. And by the way, nothing on my site is harmful, so you better unblock everything. Avast Antivirus - The best free antivirus that exists. It's comparable to Kaspersky, only Avast uses less resources (meaning more gaming for you!). Notepad2 - The most resource-friendly text editor I've ever used. Notepad++* - For a more fully-featured text editor, Notepad++ is free and open-source. It'll bog down more resources though. Visual Studio - The absolute best text editor there is. It's free, but it uses the MOST resources. Any one of the downloads on that page will work. I prefer the C++ one. VIM - VI-Improved* - The text editor you should really get yourself familiar with. It's got quite a learning curve for all of its shortcuts, but it'll save you the time of having to take your hands away from the home row so much. Many reports about this editor sing praises of the time saved in editing by using this one. It'll be a learning experience, but you'll be better for it. VIM runs in almost all linux distributions, windows... and yes, macs too. you'll be able to edit text on almost any platform. Open Office* - Microsoft Office too expensive? Download openOffice instead. This is a fully featured FREE office suite. This also opens and saves as .doc AND .docx, so no more struggling with some new document format that someone sends you. XMPlay - This is the best music player out there right now. It's the most lightweight, intuitive feature-filled, and robust music player. I prefer the XMP Underground Radio skin. It has tons of plugins and playback options. Best player ever. K-Lite Codec Pack - Someone give you a movie file or an audio file that your media player doesn't have the "codec" for? Download this codec pack (just go with default installation options... click next a bunch til you get to the finish. don't change anything). Now your media players will recognize more files when you try to play them. VLC player* - Still having trouble playing certain files? This media player will play ANYTHING just about. If VLC won't play it, the file is most likely hosed. 7-zip* - Ever got a "compressed" file that you didn't recognize like .rar, .war, .jar, .tar.gz, .7z, .iso? This archive program will open almost any of 'em. It'll also open .zip too. Gimp* - This is the best photoshop alternative I've ever used. Again, free. Want proof of it working? Check the picture here I use it all the time. KillActiveWindow - A program I wrote myself that runs in your task bar. Whenever you press the windows key + K, it'll kill the process of whatever active window you're in. Only tested and designed to work in windows XP x86 Infrarecorder* - This is the best CD/DVD burning/Image Writing software out there. Pidgin* - The chat client that encompasses all chat clients. Talk on all im clients at once through 1 place. You can even talk on facebook chat. *This software is open source. Link to download youtube videos
Linux Distributions: Ubuntu - The best Linux distribution out there right now due to the size of its community. Perfect for newbies. As powerful as windows 7. Linux Mint - Based off of Ubuntu, but not as bulky. Runs pretty fast... very ideal for lower-end PC's that used to run windows 2000. Fully featured, and runs better than XP. Ideal for the linux newbie. Damn Small Linux - This one is ideal for that computer that used to run dos or windows 3.1. You can also run this distribution from WITHIN windows. Knoppix - Ideal for someone who fixes computers. This distribution runs from the bootable media you put it on (ie. CD, USB, etc.) and comes preinstalled with error scanners, partition software, and the ability to access hard drives. Need a virus erased? This is the distribution to use to get it done.
I have no idea where this came from, but I don't want it to disappear. Chicken Rainbow Farewell FFXIV.
