Flymore: Not a Nu Metal Substitute

This band ... it's so painful. If none of you have heard flymore, take a quick trip to youtube and check em out. songs to note are "all the time i bled" and "asylum". go on. i'll be here when you get back. ... ok? done? yeah, who do they sound like not only in music, but singer? hmmm, i'll give you some hints in case you're slow. they sound like a band from bakersfield, CA. Their debut album came out in 1994. They're known for pioneering the nu metal sound. They headed the Family Values Tours. The singer of this band is in my opinion responsible for the success of fred durst, which he publicly apologized for. They were featured on a south park episode, a monk episode, and performed on SNL. The lead singer co-wrote and produced the music for queen of the damned. in fact, his voice is dubbed over the main actor's voice every time a song plays. this band recently finished an unplugged album featuring amy lee of evanescence and robert smith and the cure. they lost a guitarist who chose god as his lord and savior and they lost a drummer to... a disappearing act. They have performed with snoop dogg, xzibit, ice cube, linkin park, lil jon, and dem franchize boys. hmmm... need any further clue? for those of you who guessed the music style and sound immediately without needing any of these hints, i salute you, and you probably know precisely why flymore causes such an inner struggle. if you hadn't guessed, flymore sounds almost exactly like the band: Korn. yeah. Korn. I've been anxiously awaiting the new korn album, and i came across this band. at first, i was just happy to hear something that sounded like korn to tide me over. think of it as an addiction satisfaction. but i'm sorry. listen to the opening of "all the time i bled" "you piss me off fuck your lies don't pull that shit" ... i won't even continue. who the hell wrote lyrics like this? a 13 year old angst-filled bitch-kid? good god. the singer, while definitely bearing a strong resemblance to jon davis, instead comes across sloppy thus bringing out more of a satirical jab at korn. it's almost as if this band exists to overexaggerate korn's music so as to make fun of it. "we just miss the old sound of korn, so we wanted to recreate it" flymore says. you've created a pile of pain is what you've done. the music itself is amazing... totally what i like about korn's music. i really think it's the singer. he probably wouldn't be so bad if somebody would walk in and say "dude... what the HELL are you doing?" jon's singing style for korn can be slightly sloppy at times, but that's due to a certain type of singing he does that no other band has quite picked up on. korn to me performs nu metal musicals. have you ever listened to a musical performance? the singers don't just "sing the song". they act while singing. every word sung is carefully tone-chosen to best portray the character or the emotion of the character. this is the way jon davis sings korn songs, and is why i've always had respect for them. can it sound crappy at times? oh yes (eyes the song "hating"), but for the most part, it's not too bad. it's not about listening to someone sing, it's about listening to someone express. flymore's idea of copying that is to try to emulate that passionate, sometimes over-the-top singing jon has been capable of, but none of it has any logic as to why it's being sung that way so it just comes across sounding retarded. Here I'd hoped to hear a band that had respect for korn's music and instead i get this crap. this crap doesn't tide me over... in fact it makes me hunger for korn's next album even more. thank you flymore. just when i thought i had the shakes under control, you come along and do THIS to me!!!! damn you!!!! that's the inner struggle. wanting korn's old style back and getting korn's next album and hoping to be satisfied with the idea... but it was so poorly executed that it makes me cry. still, with all that said, i'll still pick up flymore's next album when they come out with it. why? because i like to think bands improve with time and experience, and maybe the next album won't be such a joke to korn's greatness. (i still can't believe they went as far as to sample korn's music in one of their songs. asylum is the song i speak of. those korn fans out there who have never heard that opening music piece, that was the instrumental that played on their site after the release of untouchables). ah, and there are those of you here who don't like korn's music at all. what should i say to you? um... ... we at least agree that flymore sucks... right? there's a bright side to everything!

Update: Korn's new album sucks so bad that Flymore actually sounds better.
